After a successful CAF Executive meeting in Morocco, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set new dates for the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
The tournament which was initially said to be held in June/July 2023 has been postponed to January 2024.
The postponement is mainly due to heavy rains that are experienced annually during June/July in the Ivory Coast.
The 2023 African Cup of Nations will now be held in 2024 according to CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
“January is not the ideal time because of the European clubs, but it is the only choice we have,” CAF President Patrice Motsepe said during the CAF executive meeting in Rabat.
Senegal are currently the champions of Africa after winning the last edition of the TotalEnergies African Cup Of Nations held in Cameroon.
