The Black Stars of Ghana secured the 18th position out of the 24 competing teams in the recently concluded 2023 African Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.
The Ghanaian Senior National Football team, led by Chris Hughton, was unable to advance from Group B, managing only two points from three matches
In their initial group match, Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde. Subsequently, they secured 2-2 draws against both Egypt and Mozambique, resulting in a third-place finish in the group, ahead of Mozambique but below Cape Verde and Egypt.
Following the Black Stars’ elimination from the tournament, the Ghana Football Association took decisive action by dismissing Head Coach Chris Hughton and his backroom staff, citing their team’s poor performance.
The 2023 African Cup of Nations concluded with Ivory Coast, the host nation, securing victory by defeating Nigeria 2-1 to claim the championship trophy. Meanwhile, South Africa secured third place in the tournament by defeating Dr. Congo.
