The Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 All Africa Games has launched the official logo, mascot and website of the games to be held in Accra, Ghana.
The launch which was held at the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Center on Thursday ,16 December.2021. also saw the launch of the website (Tawiah) for the games.
The logo is named Akweley, and the mascot is called Okodie(Eagle) all in Ga Language.
The Eagle was chosen as the Mascot as it symbolizes courage, strength, focus and immortality.
The event was graced by President Akuffo Addo, Minister for Youth, Sports, Mustapha Ussif and some other dignitaries.
“The logo and mascot are the brand and identity of the African Games and by stretch the LOC and African Union. They are therefore the marketing tools for organizing and hosting the Games” . LOC Chairman Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare said.
Speaking at launch, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif also said, “the ceremony taking place today is a message to the whole world that Ghana is ready, willing and capable of hosting and organizing a benchmarking event which will leave a lasting legacy.”
Fifty-Four African countries are expected to compete in the games, bringing with them more than seven thousand athletes and officials.
It will be staged at two venues; the Legon Sports Stadium and the Borteyman Sports Complex on August.
